Climate
Yucatan has a subtropical-tropical climate
with temperatures that oscillate most of the
year between 28º and 35º C. In winter the
climate is cooler.
Tips for the traveller
The use of comfortable clothes is
recommended, t-shirts and loose trousers,
closed comfortable shoes for the outskirts
of the city, and sandals for the beach. The
use of sun blockers is also recommended, and
caps or hats are particularly useful.

Federal highway 261 goes from Merida to
Uxmal, and it also facilitates the
connection between different zones of the
Mayan area and archaeological sites, as well
as for the Convents and Puuc routes.
The deep-sea port of Progreso in the Yucatan
Peninsula, is a touristic meeting point and
a border open to the commercial exchange
with the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean
Sea.
The modern facilities of the port, as well
as the region’s productive and commercial

the import and export of merchandise between
North and South America, the islands of the

It has a viaduct and a duty free commercial

Location
Yucatan is to the southeast of the Mexican
Republic. Located in the central part of the
Yucatan Peninsula, it is contiguous to the
north with the Gulf of Mexico, to the
southeast and east with Quintana Roo and to
the west and southwest with Campeche. The
territorial extension of the state is 43,379
km2, and it is integrated by 106
municipalities, with Merida as the capital
